ICT for all...

Information and communication technologies (ICT) have approached us in the last decades to the global development. The number of internet users in developing countries have grown really much in the last years, even more than in the industrialized ones, but there are still troubles, like poor information, economic issues, etc.
The United Nations called for a World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).The goal of this meeting was to assess progress and prompt further global action to capture the promise of ICT for all.

Why I´m here

The way I choose this career was pretty particular. When I was at high school, I actually never knew what was my main preference to study, month by month, I used to think in a different career. Once I made the PSU test, I was really dizzy about what I want. The day that I had the idea of study veterinary medicine, instantly I knew it was a good shot to improve my scientific side and the possibility to work with animals, creatures that I really loved my whole life.

I think that in order to improve the work conditions in the future for the vets, the country has to change in his way of thinking.First of all, we have to make new laws about the responsibilities between the dog and his owner, the ones that operate now at days, are pretty obsolete.

I would really love to be a medic specialized in the area of internal medicine, but, the stressful conditions of working, and bad salaries kill´s that passion in me. Maybe another good option is to work in production, in the south of the country, but, who knows…

"Dog Genius"

The documentary "Dog Genius" it`s a perfect video to learn something more about dog intelligence and their special way to relate with people. We can see many cases, experiments (made by professionals) and another stuff related with the development of dogs in their enviornment. As we can see on the documentary, wolves have evolved into many different genetic lines of dogs, actually domesticated by the men, although, the dogs that actually live among us, remain some characteristics from their ancestors (like smelling trough long distances) and also, dogs have been improved by the men in some characters helpful for us. In my career, I previously have seen the "fast mapping", one of the first types of reasoning, developed in babies and also in our canine friends. This says to us that dogs really have the capacity to think, maybe in a more primitive way than humans can, opening new frontiers in the areas of the animal behaviour investigation. Returning to their special and awesome feature to smell, in the documentary we could see the “layers smelling capacity”, the way how dogs can separate the many odors around them, being able to identify each one, even if their are exposed to more than one. The “stars” smelling, are the “bloodhounds”, this breed is used by the police to improve their investigations. They actually use them to follow some odors related with, for example, a criminal.
Another interesting thing we could see, was the “k-9 camp”, a training center where dogs are trained by professionals since firsts days of their lifes. The way how the trainers does, is stimulating their senses of many ways, for example, they put the puppies on warm towels, stimulate their social sense putting another animals around them (like cats), and even they carry puppies to a market. The main objective of all this things is to achieve a bigger development of the animals brain.
Finally, this documentary helped me to find some interesting and rare information about dogs and the way how they evolved into a more friendly kind of animal, a kind of animal that live among us, making with humans special bonds of feelings and work.

My favourite picture: A special day with good friends

Hello again, today I`m gonna write about one of my favourite pictures I have. It was taken on March 17th, the day of my birthday by one of my friends, Carolina (better known as "miss table" :P). The picture shows me (in the middle), Beatriz (on the left side) and Catalina (on the right side showing the half of his face) posing for the photo on "Mundo Granja", the place where the girls decided to give me a big surprise. It was so cool, they even bought donuts and also they made some birthday cards by they own!. Definitely it was one of that days you always remember, even years after them. I really like this photo because when I look it, i can remember such a great day with three of my best friends... see ya!

PS: The only thing that it wasn`t that great, was the movie we saw on the cinema after that, Friday the 13th, it`s absolutely awful and booooring, DON`T WATCH IT, you will waste your money and time!!!!

One useful website...

Today I`m gonna write about a very special website, pretty useful for our career (veterinary medicine), the site of IVIS (international veterinary information service) the link is http://www.ivis.org/.

IVIS is a data base of almost everything that a good professional needs, you can access to a very large library of books, recently papers and another kind of publications. The only thing you need to enter this data base is to give your e-mail, and with that, after a quick registration you are ready to use it.

It`s made for students, professionals, and in general, for the people who works with animals. This website needs founds, so, if you want, you can donate an amount of money without any kind of commitment.

I visit this website once in a time, specially when i have to do some works for the university, because the information that you can get on it it`s updated pretty often. It`s a good tool for doing some research, I found it because in class one day our teacher told us about it and he recommended it to us.

My favourite piece of technology

This is my very personal favourite piece of technology, the PG58 Shure microphone. I got it the last year, after months saving some money in order to be able to afford it (and that doesn`t count the fact that is not even new, it`s used). I use it for singing when I play with the guys of my band. I use it very often, at least once a week (when I rehearsal with Dr. Science).

I really love it, I`ve used tons of microphones, but this is really good, you can sing really loud and the sound keeps pretty clean, without any kind of distortions, it Works perfectly for me.

My life without it would be very complicated (at least in the musical part of my life) because that would mean that i would be obligated to borrow someone`s else`s microphone, and maybe, without the same quality of this mic.

Welcome to the first step to achieve the internacionalization of our band called " Dr. Science".

The main goal is to reach our band to our fans in another countries, different from Chile. Actually we work as a cover band of the californian group named ¨Incubus¨, and also, we are working in our own songs, with a funk-metal style.

We hope that you can really feel free to visit in any time this page, because we will try to update it often, with materials like lyrics of our composition, links to videos of our live presentations, dates of our concerts, pictures, news of the band and many other stuff.

Hope you like it, see ya!
